As a teacher, I facilitate students' exploration and discovery of our vivid world so that they become mindful global citizens.

A little about me: I am an ARL (Alternative Route to Licensure) student with a background in the visual arts.  I graduated in 2006 with a B.A. in Art and Art History and began teaching my teaching career as a secondary Art History and Sculpture teacher.  I decided to transition to the elementary classroom because I believe strongly in the power of a firm foundation for student success.
I currently live in Las Vegas with my husband, two children, and two dogs.

Charissa Odom,

Elementary Educator

Students become a part of the global community in incremental steps that begin at a young age.  Elementary students learn to be members of their own communities and develop an understanding of the larger picture.  I believe it is my job as a teacher to facilitate their responsible, positive, and mindful development as participants in a larger community.  To be this kind of effective citizen, students must learn basic skills such as reading, writing, mathematics, and reasoning.  In addition to this, students must learn how to compare ideas, express their own perspectives, and reason through complex problems.

My role in helping students achieve a high level of citizenship is akin to being their travel agent: I plan and organize important stops along their journey.  We stop and linger on important topics.  We experience new opportunities that help us grow as students and people.  Along the journey, I facilitate conversation, lessons, and the making of connections.  I also provide students tools so that they learn to navigate their own journey after our time is through.  This website serves as my field notes from my student teaching experience and to share my growth as a teacher through this journey.
